Russel H. Niebres, graduate of The Lewis College Nursing Assistant Course, flew to United Kingdom (UK) on May 11, 2009.
With a big smile, Russel checked in at the Cathay Pacific terminal in NAIA for his 5:15 pm flight to UK. His parents and other family members gathered to send him off, along with TLC nursing assistant coordinator Mutya Acebron. When jokingly asked if he will cry there Russel said, "I'm going there to study and work hard Mam, not to cry." Russel applied for and passed the screening of the Work-Study Sandwich Program of Wave Training in Birmingham (www.wavetraining.co.uk). After qualifying, the UK Embassy issued a three-year study visa to him last February 2.
As a student in UK, Russel will undergo hands-on training at The Promenade care home and will also receive some allowance for his assistance to the patients inside the care home. This new experience will enhance his skills further and prepare him for a bright future in the medical field.
