Good news for college students this Academic Year 2017-2018!

The City Scholarship Management Committee of the Office of the City Mayor of Sorsogon came out with a plan help Tertiary Students who are residing, and are currently enrolled in Sorsogon City Schools.  This plan came into effect last September 15, 2017, when Mayor Sally A. Lee personally handed out to private school heads and representatives the checks for student-grantees who are qualified for financial assistance of Two Thousand Pesos per semester, or Php 4,000.00 a year. This is part of Mayor Lee’s priority programs in order to meet the five goals for Sorsogon City this 2017: of becoming an Inclusive, Resilient, Livable, Competitive and Sustainable City.

This amount is an aid for the cost of Higher education tuition fees and miscellaneous fees. The are now about 437 college students in The Lewis College (TLC) who received help and grants from the Sorsogon City Government Educational Subsidy (SCGES). The grant recipients were screened and evaluated by the TLC Scholarship Committee and the City Scholarship Management Committee.

Meanwhile, another 175 college students from The Lewis College were evaluated and chosen to receive the Educational Financial Assistance Program for Tertiary Education (EFAPTE) from the Provincial Government of Sorsogon.  On August 17, 2017 Governor Robert Lee Rodrigueza led the orientation and awards for the recipients coming from different municipalities in Sorsogon Province.  Each grantee will be given P2,000.00 educational assistance per semester.  This is in line with the vision of Governor Rodrigueza to have “a college graduate in every Sorsoganon home” through the active support of continuing education programs in the province.

Recipients of the educational subsidy from the Office of Sorsogon City Mayor and Governor’s Office are expected to maintain passing grades per semester, uphold good moral character and not to have violated any school rules and regulations, or be subjected to any disciplinary action. In addition, the students are encouraged to stay in school (no dropping out without merit), no shifting of degree course, no transferring to other schools not covered by the program, participate in LGU-initiated activities, and satisfactorily complete academic and non-academic requirements of the school every semester.
